Career Summary

Md. Zahidul Islam has over 18 years of consulting experience in Environmental Site Assessment, Environmental Feasibility Studies, Screening and Scoping, IEE, ESIA, ESMP, ESMF, RESA, SESA, CIA, ESDD, Environmental Monitoring and Compliance Audits, ESAP and post-ESAP implementation Audit, ESMS, ESAP, SEP, GM, LMP,  ESCP. GIS and RS Application, DIA, ERP, Hazard and Risk Assessment and Management, supervising & monitoring ESMP implementation, training with respect to various national and international guidelines.

To date, Mr. Islam has completed more than 100 EIA/ESIA studies, including detailed EIA/ESIAs, giving him an in-depth understanding of the EIA/ESIA requirements in the country, from scoping of the studies, baseline data collection, identification of key issues, evaluation of assessment results, to recommendations on measures required to minimize the impacts to acceptable/sustainable levels. He takes on the role of the project manager/study team leader in most major projects, leading a team of consultants from multiple disciplines. His experience covers a wide range of sectors, including power plants (coal, gas, HFO), renewable (solar, rooftop solar, wind), transmission lines, water resources management, flood control infrastructure, oil and gas, petroleum refinery, cement plants, iron and steel, drilling, marine jetty/port and harbors, dredging and land reclamation, LNG, LPG, roads, bridges, railway lines, BRT, metro rails, township, economic zone, national parks, tourism and hospitality, waste management, waste to energy, water supply and sanitation, biogas, brick kiln, food and beverage, sand quarry, automobile, agri-machinery, healthcare/hospital, pharmaceutical, and infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, The Gambia, Tanzania, Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Malawi, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Côte D'Ivoire, etc. He has undertaken projects for the Government and private sectors, including publicly listed companies and multinational clients. 

He has in-depth knowledge of national legislations in different countries related to environment, social, health, and safety issues, and is familiar with guidelines for E&S Considerations of JICA, ADB SPS, IFC PSs, WB ESF, AIIB's E&S Framework, WBG EHS Guidelines, Equator Principle, KfW Sustainability Guideline, OECD Common Approaches, UKEF Sustainability Policy Statement, sustainability policy of FMO, adoption of Good International Industry Practices, and Operational Policies and Safeguard Policies employed by various multilateral funding institutions.
